This evening, I decided to do a black and white shot. That was all I planned – not a shot of a particular thing, just..black and white.
So I stepped outside, focusing on light. Looking for patterns of light, shape, looking for rhythm.
We have this branch that recently fell off the largest tree in our yard. The leaves are particularly awesome – pointy, scalloped edges, and abundant.
Yes, I thought. That would work!
I carried the branch ’round the side of the house, into the sun. Set it down, sat down behind it, started to play with the position of the sun.
I took a couple practice shots to check exposure, and that was when these scalloped edges truly caught my eye – through the camera, I could see how they were illuminated.
Yes! I thought. This will really work.
